SCHOOL & HOSPITAL FIRE DOOR SERIES · application scenes

Doors for schools and hospitals

A school or hospital corridor sets its own terms. The door has to take the traffic and still close on cue, so the catalogue lists the school and hospital series with their own model ranges: SDS leaves for education and HPS for hospital, including the unequal double leaf marked at 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes.

Application is listed as education and hospital across the series, and the brochure shows it in both settings.

Key features

Four things it brings to the opening

01Single leaf and unequal double leafThe range draws a single-leaf fire door for classrooms and wards, and an unequal double leaf where a wider opening has to keep a narrow active leaf.
02B1 flame-retardant leaf with a honeycomb coreA B1 flame-retardant board over a honeycomb core keeps the leaf flat across a school door and light enough for a self-closer.
03Vision panels where they helpPart of the range is drawn with a vision panel, so staff can see into a classroom or a patient room before they open the door.
04Accredited fire certificationCompliance is listed to AS 1905.1:2015, AS 1530.4:2014, EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018 and CAN/ULCS104 with UL listing and the Intertek, CE, BS, IAS, FSC and HKAS marks.

Leaf, face and colour

The leaf is wooden, faced in laminate, HPL or wooden veneer, with a solid-colour laminate and lacquer route on the school pages. Colour is quoted to order: the catalogue shows blue, green, red and navy frames against white leaves in a school corridor, and a set of wood tones with a soft mint on the hospital pages. Under the face sits a B1 flame-retardant board over a honeycomb core. A vision panel is drawn on part of the range, so staff can see into a classroom or a patient room before the leaf opens, and the sightline still clears an escape route.

Escape route and compliance

Most of these doors sit on an escape route, so the closing is the working part. The catalogue shows a closer at the head, an intumescent strip and a fire-rated door bottom across the gap, and a latch that holds the leaf until the handle is used. The label on the frame and the leaf is marked 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes. Leaf, frame and ironmongery are certified as one assembly rather than as separate parts, which is the reference a compliance schedule wants when a corridor repeats the same opening a dozen times.

Fire certification

The fire evidence is listed to AS 1905.1:2015 and AS 1530.4:2014, to EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018 and to CAN/ULCS104, with UL listing alongside. The marks shown in the brochure include Intertek, CE, BS, IAS, FSC, HKAS and JAS-ANZ. The same certificate set covers the single leaf and the unequal double leaf, so a project can file one reference for a whole block of classrooms or wards. A scanned pack travels with the quotation.

FAQ

Asked on every Institutional series project

What is the institutional fire-rated door?

It is a range of single-leaf and unequal double-leaf fire doors for schools and hospitals, marked at 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes and certified as one assembly.

Which fire ratings are available?

The catalogue marks the range at 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes. Values are catalogue fire ratings, quoted against the opening and the wall type.

Why an unequal double leaf?

The unequal pair keeps a narrow active leaf for daily traffic beside a wider one, which suits a corridor opening that also carries trolleys or equipment.

Are vision panels available?

Part of the range is drawn with a vision panel, so staff can see into a classroom or a patient room before opening the door.

What colour options are shown?

Blue, green, red and navy frames against white leaves on the school pages, and wood tones with a soft mint on the hospital pages. Colour is quoted to order.

Which fire standards apply?

AS 1905.1:2015 and AS 1530.4:2014, EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018 and CAN/ULCS104, with UL listing and the Intertek, CE, BS, IAS, FSC and HKAS marks.
