Aluminium Windows for African Projects: Heat, Dust and Long Transit

Dust arrives before the first rain across most African project regions, and it works its way into every moving joint on a window. The frame has to shed it, drain it and keep the track clear, which is a different brief from a temperate site. Adam Alux Systems has run aluminium extrusion and window assembly since 1997 at three production bases in China, and supplies the region in export-standard containers.

Heat, dust and what the frame has to do

Heat and dust together set the working brief. A dust-loaded sash grinds its rollers and hinges, and a frame with a shallow or closed drainage path collects the grit that blows in. The window series run EPDM foam gaskets with open drainage, so water and dust leave the frame at the bottom rail. An insect screen in high-transparency mesh is standard on the window range, and on a hot site where windows stay open at night that decides whether the room is usable.

Glazing is a project decision, so the build follows the site rather than a fixed catalogue default. The range ships with 5-20 A-5 insulating glass as standard, with single or triple builds on request, and the choice is quoted against the project. A full insulating unit pays for itself where air conditioning runs hard, while a single build suits a shaded or mild-altitude site.

Value configurations for volume work

Where the budget is set by unit count, the entry lines carry the job. The 50 series aluminium casement window is 50 mm deep with a 1.2 mm wall and a 5-20 A-5 insulating unit as standard, and it is the line for residential volume. The 40 series minimalist aluminium sliding door handles interior and patio openings with a tri-synchronous three-sash layout that clears a wide opening in one motion, and the 35x16 minimalist aluminium sliding door covers narrow openings where the frame should read thin.

All three are 6063-T5 primary aluminium, extruded in house on the same lines as the rest of the range. The step-up tier answers high-rise and exposed positions: the 110, 112 and 118 casement lines add a polyamide thermal break and 2.0 mm walls where wind pressure or solar load demands it.

Packing for a long transit

A container bound for an African port spends weeks at sea and changes hands several times before it reaches site, so packing carries more weight than it would on a short route. Units ship as export-standard containers, filled as FCL, with private-label packing available when the buyer sells under its own name. The dimensional pack on PDF and the CAD drawings on request let the site prepare openings and storage before the container clears the port.

A sample profile set and one finished test window or door can be sent ahead, which settles the finish and the section detail before the main order is committed.

Supply terms

Every quotation carries a dimensional pack on PDF, with CAD drawings on request. A sample profile set and a finished test window or door are available on request. OEM and ODM supply runs with private-label packing, and profiles, finishes and hardware are matched to the customer's drawing. Adam Alux holds CE attestation to EN 14351-1, certificate no. M.2024.206.C101817, issued by UDEM.

What to send

Send the opening sizes, the unit count, the destination port and the glazing direction. Add the exposure of the site, since a coastal or high-rise position changes the finish and the wall thickness the factory recommends. The quotation then covers the series, the glass, the finish and the packing, with lead times confirmed with the quotation.

FAQ

Frequently asked

What glass should we specify for a hot site?

It depends on how hard the air conditioning runs and how exposed the facade is. The range ships with 5-20 A-5 insulating glass as standard, with single and triple builds on request. A shaded or mild-altitude site can work on a single build, and the glazing is confirmed against your project at quotation.

How does the frame handle dust?

Sealing and drainage do the work. EPDM foam gaskets hold the sealing line, open drainage lets dust and water leave the frame at the bottom rail, and an insect screen in high-transparency mesh is standard on the window range. Rollers and hinges are the parts dust reaches first, so the sliding lines run a stainless-steel rail.

Which series fits a volume residential project?

The 50 casement window is the entry line for volume work: 50 mm deep, 1.2 mm wall, 5-20 A-5 insulating glass as standard. The 40 and 35X16 sliding doors cover interior and patio openings at the same budget tier. Higher tiers add a polyamide thermal break and 2.0 mm walls.

How long does shipping take?

Transit time depends on the destination port and the sailing schedule, and it is confirmed with the quotation. Units ship as export-standard containers filled as FCL. The dimensional pack goes out with the quotation, so the openings can be prepared while the container is at sea.

Can you supply under our own brand?

Yes. OEM and ODM supply includes private-label packing and export-standard containers, so units arrive under the customer's name. Profile, finish and hardware are matched to the drawing, and a sample profile set or one finished test door can be sent before the order is placed.

Which certifications can we file with a project?

Adam Alux holds CE attestation to EN 14351-1, certificate no. M.2024.206.C101817, issued by UDEM. No ISO 9001 certificate and no fire-rating certificate are held. Where a local standard applies to a project, the glazing build-up and engineering are confirmed against your project at quotation.
