Aluminium Windows and Doors for Ghana: Salt Air, Dry-Season Dust
Accra keeps salt in the air off the Gulf of Guinea, and by December the Harmattan carries dust down from the north until windows in Kumasi sit under a fine film. One order often covers both, and the two conditions pull a specification in different directions. Adam Alux Systems has produced aluminium windows and doors since 1997 at three bases in China, and quotes Ghanaian work with both on the table.
GHANA · COVERED VERANDA
Salt on the Accra coast
A window facing the water in Accra takes spray through the rainy season and salt haze the rest of the year. Fluorocarbon is the finish quoted for those elevations, with stainless steel track on the sliding lines and EPDM foam gaskets at the leaf edges. Anodising survives on the inland side of a building, where the salt never quite reaches.
Dust in the north
Harmattan dust is the other half of the problem, and it arrives dry and fine. It settles into a track and abrades the rollers if nothing clears it. Open, self-cleaning drainage on every series gives it a way out, and the high-transparency insect screen fitted as standard to the 50 series casement keeps it off the interior sill.
Series for Ghanaian housing
The 50 series casement window does most of the work on a Ghanaian house: a 50 mm frame, a 1.2 mm wall, 5-20 A-5 insulating glass and a screen included. Living rooms and wider bedrooms move to the 110 series casement window with five chambers in a 1.4 mm wall, and balcony openings take the 35x16 slim sliding door, which keeps the frame close to the glass line.
Tema and the container
Tema takes FCL containers, and the packing plan is agreed at order stage so the cartons survive a clearance yard. Every quotation carries a PDF dimension pack with CAD drawings on request, and packing can carry the distributor's own label. Lead times are confirmed with the quotation once sizes and finishes are fixed.
FAQ
Frequently asked
What certification applies to a Ghana order?
One attestation travels with the order, CE under EN 14351-1, no. M.2024.206.C101817, issued by UDEM. Ghanaian standards approval and local registration are not part of the supply, so the specification rests on the drawings and the quotation.
Which series should a Ghanaian developer order?
The 50 series casement for the bulk of the openings, since it brings insulating glass and a screen at a 1.2 mm wall. Living rooms take the 110 series with five chambers, and terraces take the 35x16 door. Repeated sizes keep the unit price steady across phases.
Is insulating glass needed on the coast?
In an air-conditioned room it is, because the unit slows the heat that would otherwise arrive through the glass. A ventilated room with the window open most of the day gets less from it, and single glass is quoted there. The two builds are priced side by side at quotation.
How does one window handle salt and dust together?
The finish takes the salt and the drainage takes the dust. Fluorocarbon on sea-facing frames holds colour, stainless steel keeps the track free, and an open sill flushes the dry-season dust out with the first rain. The EPDM gasket wipes the sash edge on every close.
What does an importer need before the container ships?
Clearing instructions from the importer's agent, since duty and tax treatment is set locally. The factory supplies the commercial invoice, packing list and dimension pack, and books the FCL once the drawings are signed. Shipping dates are issued with the quotation.
