Curtain Wall Opening Unit Profiles
Frame and sash sets for the openings that work inside a curtain wall.
CURTAIN WALL OPENING UNIT PROFILES
The opening that works inside the wall
A curtain wall is mostly fixed glass, but the facade still has to ventilate, and the opening unit is the part that moves. The sheet carries the frame and sash pair for that opening: the frame that sits in the grid where a vision bar would be, and the sash that turns or slides inside it. GX-1263 at 2.0 mm and 1.471 kg per metre is the standard frame member, and the sash sections run beside it at 1.6, 2.0 and 3.0 mm. The sections are drawn as a pair, because the seal line and the hardware pocket only make sense checked against each other, and that check happens on the drawing before the profile is extruded.

Sash walls from 1.6 to 3.0 mm
The sash group covers the range of opening sizes the facade needs. SL11007 at 1.6 mm and 0.671 kg per metre serves the light opening, CD11005 at 2.0 mm and 0.58 kg per metre is the standard sash, and SJ111 at 3.0 mm and 0.734 kg per metre steps up for the heavier leaf. On the frame side, GYZT028 at 3.0 mm and 1.272 kg per metre is the thick frame for the opening that sits in a wider span of the grid. The wall is fixed at quotation against the leaf size and the height in the facade drawing, the same way the mullion wall is fixed against the wind load.
The parts that keep the sash in
A sash in a curtain wall has to stay where the building wants it, and the sheet draws the parts that do the holding. The sash hook keeps the leaf seated in the frame at the hinge line, and the anti-release cover closes the pocket the hook works from, so the sash cannot lift out of the frame in use. Both parts are drawn in the same set as the frame and sash, which means they are quoted with the opening unit rather than specified separately. The hardware that the hook works against, the hinge and the lock, is quoted per project against the sash weight.
Quoted with the facade grid
The opening unit is confirmed when the grid is reviewed, because its position in the facade fixes its size, its wall and its finish. The enquiry carries the facade drawing and the ventilation requirement, and the reply lists the frame, the sash, the hook and the cover for each opening, with the wall thickness at each position. Where the facade needs a thermal break in the opening as well as the vision bars, the thermal break sash and frame from the same sheet are quoted in place of the standard pair. The aluminium is 6063-T5 primary from the in-house line, and a sample of the confirmed opening set can be cut before the production order is placed.
