Performance

Fire Rated Aluminium Doors: 20 to 90 Minutes

The fire rated range is four door lines marked for fire performance: the hotel guest room door, the apartment entry, the institutional door for schools and hospitals, and the metal line with a steel leaf and a panic bar. The catalogue marks each at 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes, the evidence is listed to the standards the four destination markets file under, and the leaf, the frame and the ironmongery are certified as one assembly.

The four lines

The hotel line is a single-leaf fire door drawn for guest room openings, where the leaf swings shut quietly behind a guest and still holds its rating in a fire. The apartment line covers the flat entry from the corridor. The institutional line serves schools and hospitals, with a vision panel drawn on part of the range so staff can see into a room before the leaf opens, and it covers the single leaf and the unequal double leaf. The metal line is a steel door for industrial and public openings: plant rooms, stairwells, service cores, with a panic bar build for crowd egress.

How the leaf is built

The wooden leaf is faced in laminate, HPL or wooden veneer, with a solid-colour laminate and lacquer route offered on part of the range. Behind the face sits a B1 flame-retardant board over a honeycomb core, a light sandwich that keeps a wide leaf flat and the swing light enough for a concealed closer. One hotel model takes a steel frame under the same wooden leaf for openings that carry a heavier door-stop load. The metal line is a steel panel finished by powder coat, or a steel frame carrying a wooden leaf. Hinge and lock pockets are cut in the factory, so the leaf hangs square on site.

Ratings as catalogue test labels

The frame and the leaf are marked 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes across the range. These values are catalogue fire ratings, quoted against the opening and the wall type, and they describe the sealed assembly rather than a measured result for one opening. The leaf, the frame and the ironmongery are certified as one assembly, which is the reference a compliance schedule wants when a corridor repeats the same opening a dozen times.

Standards and marks

Compliance is listed to AS 1905.1:2015 and AS 1530.4:2014 for the Australian market, to EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018 for Europe and to CAN/ULCS104 for North America, with UL listing alongside. The marks shown in the brochure include Intertek, CE, BS, IAS, FSC, HKAS and JAS-ANZ. A scanned certificate set goes out with the quotation, so a building surveyor can file the evidence against the unit entry rather than against the corridor.

The hardware that closes the door

Most fire doors sit on an escape route, so the closing hardware is the working part. The schedule carries a concealed closer at the head, an intumescent strip set into the frame and a fire-rated door bottom across the gap, plus a fire-certified viewer and a fire-certified electronic lock on the standard list. The hotel leaf hangs on three hinges, which keeps a tall guest room door from dropping at the lock stile. The closer pulls the leaf shut unaided, which counts on a corridor where a door left ajar is a fire risk as much as a privacy one.

Quoting a fire door line

Send the opening size, the wall type, the rating the schedule needs and the destination market. The quotation returns with the dimensional pack and the fire certificate set as a scanned pack. For the metal line, the panic-bar handing is part of the enquiry, and a finished sample leaf and a cut profile go out before a project commits.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Which fire ratings are available?

The catalogue marks the range at 20, 45, 60 and 90 minutes across the frame and the leaf. The values are catalogue fire ratings, quoted against the opening and the wall type.

Which fire standards are the doors listed to?

AS 1905.1:2015 and AS 1530.4:2014 for Australia, EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018 for Europe and CAN/ULCS104 for North America, with UL listing. The marks shown include Intertek, CE, BS, IAS, FSC, HKAS and JAS-ANZ.

What is the leaf built from?

A wooden leaf in laminate, HPL or wooden veneer, over a B1 flame-retardant board and a honeycomb core. The metal line is a steel panel with a panic bar, or a steel frame carrying a wooden leaf.

Are the parts certified together?

Yes. The leaf, the frame and the ironmongery are certified as one assembly, so a specifier carries a single test reference into the schedule instead of building one from parts.

Is there a sound rated fire door?

One model is drawn as a single-leaf soundproof fire door, listed by the catalogue at STC 28 to 45 dB under an ASTM-E90 test. It is a catalogue rating, and the acoustic page carries the surrounding figures.

What do we need to quote a fire door?

The opening size, the wall type, the rating the schedule needs and the destination market. The quotation returns with the dimensional pack and the scanned fire certificate set, and a finished sample leaf goes out before a project commits.
