Aluminium Windows and Doors for Malaysia: Monsoon Rain and Salt Coast

Malaysia gives a window the same load all year: heat, humidity near saturation, and rain that arrives sideways during the monsoon. The east coast takes the heavier share of that, with salt on top. Air-conditioning in high-rise units pushes the glass question, and a screen is a given on almost every opening. Adam Alux Systems has made aluminium windows and doors since 1997 at three bases in China, and prices Malaysian work from the opening schedule.

Heat, humidity and the monsoon angle

Rain in Malaysia rarely falls straight down. A monsoon gust drives it at an angle, so the seal that matters faces the weather, and the sill has to carry away what gets past it. Frames drain through an open self-draining path at the sill, so water leaves the profile instead of sitting behind a cover. EPDM foam gaskets keep their compression through constant humidity.

Indoor humidity adds a second issue. A single pane runs cold in an air-conditioned room and collects water on the room-side face; an insulating unit moves that face inward and the condensation stops.

Series for Malaysian projects

The 50 casement window covers most residential work: 50 mm frame, 1.2 mm wall, 5-20 A-5 glass and a high-transparency screen. The 110 casement window moves up to five chambers and a 1.4 mm wall for larger lights and taller openings.

Horizontal openings take the 95 sliding window on 2 or 3 tracks with ball-bearing rollers at 1.4 mm. Where a three-panel opening should stack to one side, the 40 series sliding door runs three leaves on a synchronised track.

Glass for a high-rise unit

Standard glazing across the window range is 5-20 A-5 insulating, with single or triple builds on request. On a high-rise facade the cavity does two jobs: it cuts the solar gain that loads the air-conditioning, and it lifts the room-side face above the dew point. A coated or tinted outer pane can be added where the sun hits hardest.

Doors take automotive-grade tempered glass as standard, in clear, frosted, reeded or fluted builds. The build-up is set per elevation at quotation.

Salt on the east coast

The east coast runs salt on the wind for much of the year, and the finish takes it first at the edges and the cut ends. Fluorocarbon is the finish specified there. Anodised and thermal transfer are the other lines, all with RAL matching and two-tone faces on request.

Hardware follows. Stainless-steel rails on the sliding doors, keyed handles and multi-point locking on the casements, and a screen on every opening. Servicing is simple: clearing the sill drain keeps water moving instead of pooling in the track.

Starting a Malaysian order

A Malaysian quotation takes the opening sizes with heights, the unit count, the port and the storey height of the building. Port Klang covers the west coast, Tanjung Pelepas serves Johor, and Kuantan takes the east. The quote carries a dimensional pack on PDF with CAD on request; a sample profile set and one finished test unit can be sent before the order.

FAQ

Frequently asked

What certification applies to Malaysian supply?

There is one: CE to EN 14351-1, no. M.2024.206.C101817, issued by UDEM. No Malaysian approval sits behind it. Malaysian projects that name a local compliance route are handled at quotation, where the glazing, the fixing and the profile are confirmed against the project before production is scheduled.

Which series suits a high-rise apartment?

The 110 casement window is the usual pick on tall blocks: five chambers, a 1.4 mm wall, deep enough for a 5-20 A-5 unit, with multi-point locking as standard. The 50 casement window covers lower-rise work at a 1.2 mm wall. Wind pressure at height changes the fixing, so the storey count belongs in the enquiry.

Why insulating glass in a hot country?

Because the cooling load is the running cost. A single pane passes radiant heat into the room and the air-conditioner works against it all day; a 5-20 A-5 unit slows that transfer and keeps the room-side face above the dew point, which stops condensation on the glass. Triple is available on request, and the build-up is confirmed at quotation.

How does the frame drain monsoon rain?

Through an open self-draining path at the sill. Water that gets past the outer gasket runs to the drain and leaves the profile, so it does not sit inside the section. EPDM foam gaskets compress across the sash rebate and hold through constant humidity. On the sliding range the track is the low point, so clearing the drain is the one maintenance habit that counts.

Is an insect screen included?

On the casement range, yes, in a high-transparency mesh, quoted with the unit. The sliding range uses the track and the gasket for sealing, and a screen can be added. Screens are standard on Malaysian work for good reason, and they are priced into the unit rather than added at the end.
