Aluminium Windows and Doors for Canada: Cold-Season Insulating Builds
Canadian work is sized around the heating season. A window that behaves on a mild coast can still run condensation down the frame in an inland prairie January, and the schedule usually says so before anything else. Adam Alux Systems has made aluminium windows and doors since 1997 at three production bases in China, runs 35 series across doors and windows, and extrudes its own 6063-T5 billet. Canadian enquiries are quoted from the opening schedule outward, with the thermal build settled at quotation.

How a Canadian schedule reads
A Canadian window schedule tends to lead with the thermal target, then the opening sizes. Winter design temperature drops a long way between the British Columbia coast and the prairie interior, and the inside face of the frame is where that difference shows. A single-wall profile pulls that face cold, moisture collects on it, and the remedy sits in the frame and the glass together.
Two levers control it. The first is a polyamide thermal break with more than one chamber, which holds the interior face nearer room temperature. The second is the insulating unit: a wider cavity moves the cold face inward, away from the room-side pane. Adam Alux builds both into the 118 and 112 casement lines.
Series that match Canadian openings
Tall living-room lights on an exposed wall go to the 118 casement window: six chambers, a 2.0 mm wall, and a 5-27 A-5 insulating unit as the standard build. The 112 casement window carries the same 2.0 mm wall on five chambers with a flush-line sash, which suits a facade where the frame should sit level with the wall. Where the opening is smaller and the budget tighter, the 50 casement window runs a 1.2 mm wall on a 50 mm frame with 5-20 A-5 glass and a high-transparency insect screen as standard.
Entrances take the pivot door. The M-24 offset pivot carries a catalogue rating of 42 dB, six smart entry functions, and a leaf that swings clear of the frame.
Glass, edges and condensation
Cold-climate failures usually start at an edge. A warm interior pane meets a cold spacer and the water lands there first, so the spacer and the seal matter as much as the cavity width. Windows ship with 5-20 A-5 insulating glass as standard; single and triple builds are available on request, and the 118 line goes to 5-27 A-5.
Triple glazing earns its cost where the design temperature is lowest, and double holds on the coasts. The choice is settled per project, since the answer depends on the wall assembly and the indoor humidity the building will run at.
Finishes for salt, snow and grit
The Maritimes and the Pacific coast put salt on the finish, and road salt with grit does similar work inland at ground level. Fluorocarbon holds colour and edge coverage longest in those conditions. Anodised and thermal transfer are the other two lines, with RAL matching and two-tone faces on request, exterior one colour and interior another.
Sealing follows the same logic. EPDM foam gaskets stay flexible through freeze and thaw, open self-draining weep paths carry meltwater out of the sill, and casement windows ship with multi-point locking and a keyed handle as standard.
Starting a Canadian enquiry
The quotation runs on four inputs: opening widths and heights, how many units of each size, the arrival port, and the winter design condition the project is built to. Vancouver takes west-coast freight; Halifax and Montreal serve the east. A dimensional pack on PDF comes with the quotation, CAD on request, and a sample profile set or one finished test unit can go out before the order.
FAQ
Frequently asked
Which certification covers Adam Alux supply into Canada?
One certificate exists: CE to EN 14351-1, no. M.2024.206.C101817, issued by UDEM. There is no Canadian listing. On the fire door side the range is sold on catalogue fire ratings within the North American framing set out on the United States market page, and any engineering question is taken up against the project at quotation.
Which series suits a prairie winter?
The 118 casement window is the usual answer for tall lights on an exposed wall: six chambers, a 2.0 mm wall, and a 5-27 A-5 unit. The 112 casement window trades one chamber for a flush-line sash on the same wall thickness. Both hold the interior face warmer than a single-wall frame, which is where condensation control starts.
Double or triple glazing for a Canadian house?
Double covers the British Columbia coast and most of the settled south. Triple is worth pricing where the winter design temperature sits well below freezing for long stretches, since the third pane and the extra cavity move the cold face further from the room. Window series take 5-20 A-5 as standard and triple on request; the 118 goes to 5-27 A-5.
How do the frames handle snow melt and freeze-thaw?
Frames drain through an open self-draining path at the sill, so meltwater leaves the profile instead of sitting in it, and EPDM foam gaskets stay elastic through repeated freeze and thaw. Casement windows ship with multi-point locking and a keyed handle. On the east coast and in the prairies, fluorocarbon is the finish that holds edge coverage longest.
Do you ship to both Canadian coasts?
Yes. Vancouver covers the west, Halifax and Montreal the east, and containers load to export standard with private-label packing for distributors. Port choice changes freight and transit, so it is set at quotation along with the series, glazing and finish. Lead times are confirmed with the quotation.
