Aluminium Profiles

Aluminium Profile Custom Die Service

A section that is not in the catalogue is a small project of its own, and the custom die service is built around that. Adam Alux Systems extrudes 6063-T5 primary aluminium in house and has run production since 1997 across three bases in China. When a design needs a shape the 35 window and door series do not carry, the plant takes it from the drawing through die, extrusion, finish and a tested first run.

When a catalogue section will not do

Catalogue sections cover windows, doors, facades and a wide span of industrial work, but a project sometimes needs a shape none of them matches: a deeper rebate, a wider chamber, a profile that has to wrap a specific glass or interface. That is the point where the custom die service starts. The section is drawn for the one job rather than bent out of an existing shape, which keeps the geometry true to the design.

Design review

The first step is a review of the drawing against what the extrusion lines can hold. The plant reads the wall thickness, the corners, the chambers and the way the profile will be used, and comes back with any change that would make the section stronger or simpler to run. This is where a drawing that is hard to extrude gets caught, before the die is cut rather than after.

Die and extrusion

Once the section is agreed, the die is made and the profile is extruded in 6063-T5 primary aluminium, the grade used across the plant. The first run is checked against the drawing before it is packed, so the tolerances are confirmed on the metal rather than on the paper. Die and tooling details, and the timing of the run, are settled at quotation; they are not quoted from this page.

Finish and testing the first run

The custom section then moves through finishing, anodised, thermal transfer or fluorocarbon coated, with RAL matching available on request. A sample of the first run is available before the production order, so the section can be checked against the drawing and the assembly it goes into. Where the part carries a load, the review of the section covers that too, so the finished profile matches the job it was drawn for.

What the quotation confirms

A custom die enquiry is quoted against the drawing, the load the section carries and the quantity. Send those three, and the quotation returns with the die and tooling details, the finish, the packing and the run. Die prices, tooling lead times and tonnage figures belong in that quotation and are not published here, because they change with the section and the order behind it.

FAQ

Frequently asked

When do we need a custom die rather than a catalogue section?

When a project needs a shape the 35 window and door series do not carry, such as a deeper rebate, a wider chamber or a profile that has to wrap a specific glass or interface. The section is drawn for that one job instead of being bent out of an existing shape.

What do you need to quote a custom section?

The section drawing, the load the profile has to carry and the quantity. With those three, the extrusion is quoted, and the die and tooling details are confirmed at quotation rather than assumed on the enquiry.

Does the drawing get reviewed first?

Yes. The plant reads the wall thickness, corners and chambers against what the extrusion lines can hold, and comes back with any change that would make the section stronger or simpler to run, before the die is cut.

Can we sample the first run?

Yes. A sample of the first run is available before the production order, so the section can be checked against the drawing and the assembly it goes into, after the profile is finished in the chosen coat.

Are die prices and lead times published here?

No. Die prices, tooling lead times and tonnage figures change with the section and the order behind it, so they are settled in the quotation for each section rather than quoted from this page.
